Being fairly new to Berkeley, I (Jp L) figured it would be nice to have a list of local restaurants to tick off.

On Euclid:

Others near campus:

"Your Place" at University & Bonar has good Thai & is close to Serendipity Books (amazing bookstore with huge inventory, rollable library shelves...)

Blue Nile used to be famous for pricey Ethiopian on Telegraph. Don't know if it's still open but there's a cluster of cheaper Ethiopian places in that area.

The Gourmet Ghetto area of North Berkeley has loads of places:

Also try down at 4th & Gilman.

For Indian try Chaat Cafe (cheap & cheerful, nr campus) or Vik's at 4th & Allston (amazing, albeit busy).

Also check out the Takare Sake factory and the ScharffenBerger chocolate factory.
